Should I try to preserve my time capsule kitchen?

The floor plan is terrible, and I'd love a better cooktop and bigger oven, but my kitchen is original to our 1954 house. Should I try to preserve as much as possible or just put in a new modern-style kitchen? I'm really torn over this decision.

Is everything else in your house original to the home? Most people would rather have an updated, fully functioning kitchen. I'd rip that puppy out in a heart beat.

I guess I have two issues. One is that it's a perfectly preserved 60 year old kitchen, which to some people is a pretty cool thing. I'd hate to be the person who "tore out that period piece". The other issue is that it's still functioning, and I'm in the reduce, reuse, recycle camp.

And yes, Blue Booby, everything except the bathrooms are original.

That is your call. You need to decide how long you'll be using the kitchen and if you can live with it. On the other side, if you are thinking of selling, most buyers will not like it...you will limit the clients who might purchase.

Just because you put in a new kitchen doesn't mean that the style has to be 2016. You should go for the kitchen of your dreams and consider the vintage of the house when you're choosing your cabinet style and colours.

If it's important to you to preserve it, then you should do that. But honestly people will say "it's so cool", but most wouldn't really want it in their own home.
