IMO this is the worst possible place to store oils or anything else for that matter.

if you cannot reach ingredients without catching your shirt on fire... it really isnt a great kitchen solution.

Sorry to disagree with the pros, but a shelf above the range is great for some people. I don't have one and don't want one, but sister's range has a shelf like that pictured and she loves it and raves about it all the time. Her hood has heat lamps on it, so the shelf is where she keeps food warm (or warms her dinner plates) instead of a warming drawer. It's easily reachable without catching your shirt on fire, even for me at only 5 foot 2. When not being used, she has a couple of pretty bowls on it and her salt and pepper. I agree with the poster who said it's not great for storing heat sensitive items like oil, but there are plenty of other things to do with it besides oil storage. As for where to find it, I believe hers was purchased from the same company that made her range, DCS. Also, I googled "range shelf" and a number of options came up, so maybe one of those will appeal to you.

Does anyone know how close a shelf should be to the heat lamps? Is there a minimum/maximum distance? I am having a hard time finding room for a pot filler and shelf without getting the hood farther than recommended from the range top.

nancyhriley - you might get better advice starting a dilemma rather than taking on to someone else's. But putting a pot filler, shelf with heat lamps, and range hood all in one space seems rather busy to me. You'll probably need to prioritize between pot filler and warming shelf.

I would assume the manufacturer of the heat lamps suggests the proper distance from the shelf?
