What colour to paint my kitchen cabinets?

I would like to paint my kitchen cabinets and redo the back splash! At the moment they are off white/beige. The furniture in the pics isn't mine and the counter tops are black granite. Original kitchen:

I have a black mirrored fridge so I thought of a gray or black back splash to tie it in with the rest of the kitchen.

For the cabinets I have considered white (even though I'd prefer something more unusual and something that doesn't show dirt so easily), gray or even a chartreuse.

I have edited some pictures below, let me know your thoughts, please! Thank you!

I found some pictures online. You could use almost any color. I like red
I like blue with all the exposed wood
I did not find a good chartreuse example. The black refrigerator will fit in with the black countertop just fine. I would avoid gray.

If it was my kitchen I would paint the cabinets BM Decorator's White. There are other ways to bring in chartreuse, if that is your favorite color. You could go for a bright backsplash. I am not sure because I cannot see the detail in your granite.

I agree with you that the current cabinet color is just not right.

If you do a backsplash, remove the little bit of granite backsplash. You do not need both.

Thank you so very much! The granite has some white speckles in, so maybe white cabinets would look the best. I will have them sprayed so what paint finish would you recommend? Just seems a shame to go through all the effort of spraying them and then doing it in a "normal" color :) But the white will give a clean striking look.

The chartreuse will be visible from other rooms. That is why I think white is a better choice. However, it is your kitchen and I understand that if you pay for something it should at least be something you like. If you really want chartreuse do it on bottoms only, as in your inspiration photo. As I mentioned earlier I would not add a gray backsplash. I am not fond of the one in the photo you provided. If you must have gray make it very pale.

I like the suggestions given by bleheimnewzwland. Paint Botteon cabinets gray and upper white. The bottom cabinets will contrast with your floors and will warm up the space if you use a warm gray.

Your idea with the light bluish gray is also very good. Would chose a black splash other than grey though

briansummerton3, I love your fist photoshopped option, with gray cabinets the best.

Another option i'd consider is going darker gray or even charcoal for the base cabs, to create contrast with the floor. And then go lighter as you go up - medium gray backsplash, light gray upper cabs. I know different colored cabinets are not for everyone's liking, but its what i prefer.

Wow thank you all so much! I love the idea of two different colours! Should the top ones be the same colour as the walls or white? Im going to paint the walls a soft light warm gray.

The cabinets will only be visible from the lounge as it is open plan. Its a small apartment :) So it is true what you say it must tie in with the rest of the space.
