CUTE! Yet, uncommon to me, the open flower is conspicuously flat, and somehow i am accustomed and subscribed to the tubular shape. IF I had one of these in bloom and no DIPloid pollen available, then I would certainly give pollen from "Picotee" a try. OR, better yet, "Charisma"!

Good luck! I read in Planet Botanical Hippeastrum on Facebook tha pardinums in Sweden are virused. Is that true? If they are here's a pic of pardinums in Taiwan posted on FB. Hopefully they have a virus free stock.

Yes in taiwan there are many Pardinium, but the prices are very very high...

I would risk the pollen on a another cultivar. The resulting seeds would be clean....( I have read that there is low probability. Low, but not 0% of the seeds contracting the virus).

It is so sad that such a beauty should not pass its genes on to progeny.

Here is an idea to consider:

The next time that your H. pardinum is preparing to flower, please post the news immediately. Then, any of us who has species pollen available could post and create a list from which you could select. I, for one, would be happy to send you any pollen that I have with which you would like to experiment.

For the last three years, I have been trying to pollinate this H.pardinum plant with other H.pardinum plants. I also had pollen from Taiwan and it did not work either.

I will no longer use pollen from H.pardinum, but I will use something else.

Yes, I will be very happy to cooperate with each other because there is not always a suitable pollen available. I also have a lot of friends in Europe who are always willing to help in choosing pollen. Great people are around the world! Thank you all.

Oh, yes, I think that the cross H.pardinum x E.Star or vice versa can be very interesting.

Last year I used H.pardinum pollen on H.yungacense (mother plant) was successful. Now I have nice plants. Also the cross H.pardinum x Chico (mother bulb) was successful.

The species is self sterile so you wont find any seeds!

I confirm the previous post - H.pardinum is self sterile. I have also used pollen from friends and have never been successful with pollination - never had seeds.

Even if the species is self sterile, that usually means plants *of the same form* wouldn't be able to produce fertile seeds when pollinated. On the other hand, if truly different forms have been pollinated, seeds would've been successfully produced I reckon.
