Bud watching

It always seems like a small wonder to me like those huge buds emerge from the blbs necks. These are the biggest I have seen so far. My hands are not small! They are supposed to be Sweet Star.

    Still not open...

    Today at 10.00AM

    And at 8.00PM
I wonder whether this is really Sweet Star. The color is rather a dark pink than a light rosé... I like it :-)

    Here we go:

Definitely nit Sweet Star, I'm sorry! Any ideas, what it might be instead? It's a very deep and dark pink, much darker than the photo shows, and big (18cm/7in) and beautiful. Maybe Lagoon or Violetta?

    Hi Anja,

Very beautiful and who cares if it isn't Sweet Star, I would be very happy to have such a rich colored beauty. It almost reminds me of Bolero and I remember a few years back, it was very popular as a Christmas hippeastrum but I haven't seen it for sale for some time.

    Warm Regards,

Could it be Lagoon ? Mine didn't like pollen from anyone and no one liked her pollen....

Lagoon is huge and the color not as deep as Brazza but still a very intense pink.

    and here is Brazza

Thank you everybody for the nice and helpful comments. I think Lagoon is the closest but I will never know if its really Lagoon. All these shades of pink that look even different on a photo and again on a screen. I don't mind because I like it. And of course I will try some crosses. I think I will put all the cybisters I have on it and Papillio of course... I'll keep you informed :-)

    Talking about budwatching...

These two obviously want to stay together. They're growing like this from the beginning, slowly but growing. I hope they manage to flower anyway. Should be Santiago...

    here is mine today.racetowin

    Oh how beautiful...congratulations!!!! :-))))))

Thanks bunches Fred.........Just in time for easter..LOL

Racetowin, it's lovely!! It should have some fragrance and you're right, just the perfect flower for Easter!!

Anja your Santiago should be beautiful when and if both buds open at the same time. For me they were staggered as well as the flowers on each scape. First two flowers and then a week or so later the last two. I prefer it when they all open at once, but that's just my preference.

    Thanks Donna..

Mine has 3 open now .. I shall send another photo when there is 4...........

    Quite a surprise for a holiday. ;o)

    Hello Anja, what ever the
name of your pink may be, its a beautiful color. I hope we will see a
picture of your bulb with more flowers open too.

    And Sanitago is surely got
to be great! Mine just finished flowering, and it had two buds
together to, and later a third. I absolutely loved it. Its fragrant
too. And it scanted like... fir tree? :-)

I promised another picture of the maybe Lagoon. Here it is:

Of course I put some Pollen on it and until now x Papilio looks promising:

I know that it is to early to be optimistic but I would be very happy...

And I think I also may have pods on Evergreen and Spotlight with its pollen.

Peridot, you are right, Santiago is just great! I'm a bit disappointed because it has only 2 flowers on the first stem and 3 on the second but they are so beautiful and I love the fragrance. Maybe they perform better next year.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for your cross of maybe Lagoon x papilio; that should make beautiful flowers, I dream about a pink papilio....☺☺Donna

For me Santiago smells like sweet cat pee but I think Peridot's description of a fir tree is a nicer description!!

    Donna☺☺

My cats pee doesn't smell like that. It would actually be quite nice :-) My boyfriend said lavender (the flower not cats pee) but I would say fir tree too.

Yes, the dream of the pink Papilio...
