I think tech has taken over every living room nowadays, it is nice to see some spaces with family pictures rather than TV.

we don't have a tv on our first floor, but we are fortunate enough to have an extra bedroom on the second floor that can be a den. its really nice not having to decorate around a tv.

(but their photos are way too high, and i dont get an orb chandelier with an upright piano.)

LIke nnigrt - we are fortunate to have a den/bedroom on the first floor. That's where the tech lives. Never will there be a TV in the living room!! Luckily I found a pretty English mahogany armoire that holds all the audio tech, cds, and albums, that's as far as I am willing to go in the living room. Wireless speakers hidden around the house provide centralized listening - they are in every room. Makes for a nice atmosphere when entertaining.

I think the open kitchen concept has been around for at least a decade so I don't consider that new. I love that you highlighted ditching the tech for family. I have always believed a TV sucks the energy out of any space, even if it is turned off. I have been a long time fan of having the screen hidden behind cabinet doors, or in an armoire, or at least imbedded into shelving and a book case display so it isn't the focal point of a living/family room.

I'm not really seeing #1 as a trend. Most of my baths are more spa-like.

#2 is more than a trend and has been the new norm for the last 20 years.

With most kitchens being open to the family room, the big screen usually has a prominent place so it can be seen from both rooms. I do, however try to incorporate the TV into some cabinetry in a way that doesn't draw attention when it's off. The most annoying of modern intrusions into the media space ironically needs tech to eliminate it. I'm talking about commercials. In my opinion TV is not worth watching without a streaming connection and/or a DVR.
