Something is eating my eggplants fruit, help?

Today on my daily check up on my plants I noticed two of the eggplants had been nibbled. But only the skin and part of the stem above the fruit.
There are no other signs of damage anywhere else on the plant, and all other fruit looks perfect.
Normally I wouldn't worry as the rest of the plant looks fine but I recently was told about a disease slugs can transfer to humans that they contract from rats.
But theres no slug bullet holes on the fruit just the skin nibbling.
I'm new to gardening so any advice would be great. Oh and they are in containers.
