We are renting the home (for the next 2 years) so no, can't close it. That would definitely be my first project if I bought the home!!

Ok, so where you have your living room, was that meant to be the dining room? That's the only reason I can think of to put a pass thru there. If you want to go retro, you could always put love beads there! I'll attach a few more pictures of what others have done but I'm not sure it will work with the living room there. [houzz=]

i agree with interiors international. unless you have a great window on the opposite wall adn get two mirrors (one for each side).

If you don't find it useful, you could hang a large light-weight canvas over it. Make it larger than the opening so you can center it over the couch. Move the couch out from the a couple of inches, too.

You could always just fill the space with a louvered shutter.. then place an art piece to the left of it to balance the space.
