Your kitchen took my breath away this morning. Love the style and finish of the cabinets; the color of the tile and the motif are beautiful, also love the stained glass in the door inserts. Clever idea to design a business center that is not a desk. So much more classy. My husband is the DIY person in my household; my job is to hold down the fort.

swoon. If I had seen this kitchen before I did mine I would have gone for the QS oak. Your stain and matte finish really highlights that gorgeous wood. Your other choices are perfectas well and the attention to detail is incredible, 100x more since it is DIY, AND you had whole house to remodel? Beautiful. Craftsman is my favorite. Love the inset cabinets, Did you spray on the finish? Also like the granite with the wood. The archway adds so much character.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Karenseb... the cabinets are finished in a multi step process. We used transtint redish brown. then general finishes seal a cell followed by Minwax gel stain Mahagony. After that we put on 3 coats of Arm R Seal satin and finished with 2 coats of wipe on poly top coat. The directions are here http://www.woodweb.com/knowledge_base/Mission_Oak_Finish.html

Thanks natesg The granite is called African Canyon. It is a prefab slab. The countertops come in 6, 8 and 10 foot lengths with the edges already finished. The fabricator still needs to do cutouts and cut to length but it is much less expensive than having all of the edge work done. Names don't always seemed standardized so if don't know if it would have the same name in another area.

Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Oh wait, I'm repeating myself, but I can't help it. This has to be one of the most beautiful kitchens that I've seen. I love your choices, and your attention to detail; cabinet colour, glass cabinet inserts, inlaid granite, arched doorway and everything else!! I have the. best. contractor. (the only DIY that I do is write a cheque) and I doubt I could get this good. Wow.

The refrigerator is a Sub Zero 42" side by side panel ready. We really wanted the counter depth for the layout. The old refrigerator partly blocked the doorway. So we went with the 42" to keep the same interior space. We didn't want the stainless look but we really like the ice and water in the door. The dispenser was still grey/silver so we painted it to go with the wood and copper in the kitchen.

Did you custom order the Stone Hollow tiles to match the Fireclay color? Which Fireclay color is it?

The Fireclay tile is kelp and the Stone Hollow dragonflies are pearl green and old bronze.

I'm bumping this back up because I LOVE your kitchen! I just got samples of Fireclay Kelp, and Stone Hollow tiles in the two glazes you used. The Kelp is really dark in my kitchen. ETA: What paint did you use in the kitchen?

Stunning transformation! I am in awe of your DIY skills. The QS oak has the most beautiful tiger striping, much more prominent than what I've seen in newer pieces. Maybe it's your staining technique, but it's gorgeous and rivals that of antique tiger oak furniture. Enjoy!

Craftsman homes are tied for my favorite style and I really think this is the most beautiful, awesome, amazing Craftsman kitchen I have ever seen. Magazine cover worthy. Heck....hard cover, huge coffee-table book worthy!! You two aren't DIYers. You are artists.

Pippiep, I think I ordered every green they had before we picked one. Our favorite color didn't come in the tile size we wanted. I should have looked at that first. Our paint is Valspar Light Copper. Sometimes it is more yellow and sometimes more orange but I like the variation. Getting too dark with the cabinets and tile was something I was really concerned about.

Lovely cabinets and kitchen. Would you mind sharing where you got the unfinished QS Oak cabinets from? I'm in the Chicago area and looking for QS oak cabinets. I think pippiep is getting QS oak too: please share your cabinet source. Not too many places seem to make QS oak cabinets anymore. Thanks.

Mine are from Dura Supreme. They should be arriving in the next week or two.

We had ours made by a local cabinet maker. He is in Rancho Cordova, the Sacramento area of California. He has made all of the cabinets in our house. We specified that we like lots of the ray flecks that qs oak can have. He picked wood with a lot of detail and matched the cabinet doors in pairs.
