How to decorate TV console cubbies

I really don't want this area to look too busy. I'm aiming for serene and uncluttered. But I have no idea what to put in these cubbies. (At this point, I am going to place the DVR box in one of the left corner cubbies, I think).
Any advice? FYI, the rest of the family room is not large. It is a small room, which drives my need for an uncluttered, peaceful look.
