Obviously as of right now, I have no idea what it is since there's no pic (post one of you get it figured out).

But, what kind of plant is it? I don't think dollar store soil and coffee grounds would be best for revival though.

The most common reason to toss a plant is pests. Inspect carefully.

Regardless of what plant we're talking about, the coffee grounds were probably a significant mistake.

I think I figured this out! Here's a photo of the rescued plant. I didn't see any bugs. My Grandma always put her coffee grounds in her plants...I don't know why, do I assumed it was good for them. The yellow leaf in the front fell off this morning.

Your plant is a pothos, it's in rough shape and I probably would have tossed it too. No offense.

I was going to say the same thing but didn't wish to offend. It was probably tossed for being in such bad shape, sorry.

I'm always amazed how pothos plants can recover from serious abuse. They are also very easy to grow from cuttings, so your rescue may very well prove successful. Good luck!

I am always open to learning new things and I am grateful for learning the effects of coffee on plants. That explained a lot.

The plant is in bad shape for sure...but there is still life there and so there is still hope. Even if my effortsfail, I can't ignore a life (plant, animal or human) in need.

In the morning I will replant it again in uncontaminated soil and see what happens. My sis in law gave me some sticks she said is plant food and I'll try those as well.

Hold off on using the fertilizer sticks, and let's talk about fertilizer. The sticks work poorly. You should do the repot, but take particular care after repotting to keep the soil only damp - never wet or soggy. There are problems associated with that practice if you keep it up too long, but there is time for you to learn about what they are before that issue comes up (mineral salt accumulation in the soil).
