Having trouble selecting chair fabric to sofa

I recently bought a new sofa in a soft sage green. I am now planning to reupholster an existing armchair to update the overall look of the living room. I am however, having some difficulty deciding what color fabric to choose to reupholster. I tend to prefer neutral colors in creams, whites, sages. One thought was to reupholster the armchair in the same fabric used in the sofa, but not sure it would add any interest to the room. I'm also thinking of a cream damask or medallion fabric. Any advice?

Is that the couch? It looks beige to me in this photo. I think a damask print would look very pretty and give a fun print to the room. Maybe you could even add a rug underneath your furniture to tie the space together and define it in the room.

First, is that your new sofa? It comes up a beige color in the photo. Also are YOU doing the reupholstering? If not, know that it is an expensive process. It would be easier and less expensive just to buy new. ALSO if you are keeping the pink chair, I think the print and colors in your chair work well with the pink and sage. If it's the print ( cabbage roses) you want to change, I do understand. Perhaps a stripe in similar color ( rose, sage, cream or gray). Don't try to match your sage with a plain fabric. Too matchy matchy. And don't over do the pillows on your couch. Two is usually plenty. People will take them off when sitting on it.

Put TWO pillows in a jewel-toned print or stripe on the sofa. Add a rug to tie together the sofa and two chairs. Place the mirror vertically, and cluster art around it. At the moment, the repeated horizontals and lack of colour leave the room feeling rather limp. The larger chair is of a style that slip covers well. If you're going to reupholster, pick a calm fabric, bit enliven it with contrasting piping and/or moss trim on the seat cushion.

Thanks you both for your feedback. Diane, yes, I am having the cabbage patch fabric replaced. The chair is originally from Ethan Allen, and replacing it would be twice as much as reupholstering. It still has a pretty good frame. I like your suggestion regarding the stripe pulling in the other colors. Note, that the picture I posted may be skewing the colors in the room. the other chair is beige, not pink.
Agree on the pillows.

I like your new sofa. Your chair could be just about anything you like. Look around the. Room for your inspirations. Art, or some thing with color and let that guide your choices. The pillows and such you can find anywhere to add later.

I agree that a stripe or damask would be nice. Your taste is similar to mine, so I want to point out my favorite print of all, Jacobean Flower, like this one.

Hi I really like the proportions of your new sofa and I also like the muted dusky pink in the other arm chair. I would suggest adding complimentary colours to add interest and depth to the room. I would suggest a mushroom grey with a muted purple undertone like the paint colour dry clay by Conran. Here is a link to some great complimentary colours.

Hi Olya - I really like your color suggestions. Those were the colors I had been going for initially but landed with too much purple. I also have the dusky color represented in artwork. Will repost to show where I eventually land.
