No to the lamps because you already have sconces there, leave the mirror the way it is , the DR light is quite traditional so if not your taste change it. When ever you want flowers (I buy them once a week) get a big bunch in a nice big vase and put on the buffet so it reflects in the mirror and maybe a couple of decorative pieces in a lighter color for contrast with the dark furniture keep it simple and elegant. Fresh flowers to me are the best decor.

I think you are right Patricia about changing the light fixture to a large drum shade. I also think I need curtains to soften the room, same coloured curtains as the walls which are painted Benjamin Moore Pashmina. What can I put in the centre of the table? I currently have a plant but it's just blah!!! Just trying to lighten the room up, too dark as it is now

This is a very nice space that could use a little more texture, softness, & brightness to correct everything being the same tone. To start, by changing out the rug to a soft light pattern the table will be accentuated. Add soft white panels to the windows that reach the top of the ceiling height. Next, you are correct in capping off the wall sconces and replacing with a pair of tall lamps and turning the mirror. All of this will create height and interest to the back wall. Move the two extra chairs to another space - too crowded. Look for an interesting and modern light fixture that has sculptural appeal. Think light, bright, and simple with your accessories. Beautiful!

Thank you groveraxle. The room looks great with the curtains and accessories. I was thinking to our curtains on the one window but not on the window in the corner because I thought it would look awkward but it actually looks really nice.
