Love the kitchen. I really love the idea of moroccan tiles in a simple color with your kitchen.

I agree with Anna, the design of the tile is where you can get your punch, keep the color simple. Good start!

The Moroccan tile suggested would look great in your new kitchen. Add your color with a rug and Roman shade or valance at the garage door. Also a few accessories in same color.

I like this idea of the arabesque tiles. Now I have to find the right color. I don't want to use white, as it will make my cabinets even more yellowish, so I'm hoping I can find an off-white that is just one shade darker than my cabinets.

Your paint is a lovely soft blue. Why not echo that with your arabesque tile. e.g.

I love your floor tiles. I think if you're not selling soon then your backsplash should match your floors. Are the counters wood? They look great. My only suggestion is light grey walls would bring the whole thing together. Although I love the blue on the walls, it doesn't play well with the floors. There are back splash with grey and white streaks that are glass and gorgeous.

Btw in the window pain you can put layers of films that would make them opaque.

How about a 2x9 tile, very transitional. I think a cararra backsplash would look nice.

You did a great job on the renovation and the paint color is so soothing. Honestly you have so many choices for backsplash. Go to a tile store and bring home some samples. Colors will look different in your space than in the store. The wood counter may change the way a tile looks.

I am no professional, but here is my 2 cents worth: if you find a light tile you like could you use a gray grout that matches your floor tile color?

I think part of the problem you are having is your flooring, countertop and paint have different undertones and they are competing.

Go with some kind of white tiles. The arabesque is interesting. I love subway tiles, but not everyone does. MAKE SURE YOUR GROUT MATCHES YOUR TILE. You do not want to see every single tile. Makes the backsplash way too busy. Is also very trendy to do a different color grout.

Jennifer K and Beth: I may order a sample of the tiles you suggested. Blue may be too much, but the idea does excite me.

jozani: I know what you mean about the paint color. I purposely chose SW Tradewind blue because it does have a grayish undertone. Also, the tile is a teeny bit bluish, but not much. I can see how gray may be an easier wall color to deal with.

I'm trying to decide between going with a neutral off-white tile or even a neutral grayish tile or embrace the contrast and go with a darker gray or blue. I like the arabesque pattern and I might stick to it provided I find a color that works.

i would go with a grayish glass tile -- think it would be beautiful. Bring home a few samples and check them out.

You did a wonderful job! A tile that has a feeling of being woven might be nice in a shade that picks up blue and grey. Use a bold runner for a great pop of color or a woven hemp rug (I use one in my kitchen and they are great - can be spray washed with a hose) and then a rattan blind on the door (see last pic).

My concern was that by going with marble in some form or another, as a lot of you have suggested, would make my off-white cabinets look too yellowish and dirty. I already have 2700K lights and the caramel-colored countertops that add a yellow tint to the room.

However, having seen many of you suggest marbles, I am reconsidering.

Overall, the kitchen has a modern feel to it, with a touch of homeyness. I kept the original wood paneling in the eating area of the kitchen and I went with wood countertops to add to this feeling.

So far, I'm liking some of the arabesque patterns, perhaps a light gray tile (glass?), and some of the small marble tile patterns.

I'm going to get me some samples over the next few days and see where it goes.

What about doing a counter border instead of the whole wall tiled? You can do a nice farmhouse touch with a traditional old world tile that is only a single file accompanied with a border cap?

Adrian, I'm dying to know what you chose for the backsplash! I'm about to redo my kitchen with very similar materials- Bodbyn off white cabinets, Hammarp counters, Domsjo sink- and I've got no idea what to do about my walls. Also, why did you go with beech counters? I don't live anywhere near an IKEA, so I can't check anything out in person. I'm planning to go with oak, but I'm only working off catalog photos! I've got honey oak floors. Thanks!

I like the glass subway tiles in gray color. When u bring home samples put white paper behind them because the way these are installed quite often affects the final look. Just be aware. Ask your tile place how this would work. I think getting some reflective element in your kitchen would be a plus. Very impressive job. No easy task! Your instincts are right about being careful with "whites". A pure white can make off whites look yellow!
