My inground fig didn't die back this year either. You know, this winter wasn't much of a winter down here, so it didn't surprise me. I hedge my bets with figs, growing one plant in the ground in the back garden and one in a large molasses feed tub that I drag into the greenhouse for part (but not all) of the winter. The figs need some exposure to cold weather in order to produce well, so I don't keep the one in the container in the green house for the whole winter, just for the coldest part of it. This year it was hard to figure out what the coldest part of winter was because there wasn't that much cold....and that's a nice problem to have.

My inground figs are alive too. ANd the two in the tubs in the greenhouse are budding out. So true Dawn that it is hard to know when to take them in. The temps went to 10 degrees early in November 2014 and each of our potted figs lost big limbs.

I am sorry your plants lost big limbs. I hate it when early cold weather catches us by surprise like that, but sometimes it happens. I always think that I'll pick a date and move the plants into the greenhouse well in advance of the arrival of cold, but Nov 2014 surprised me too, turning colder than expected/forecast and much earlier than I dreamed it would. My in-ground fig froze all the way back to the ground that winter, and was slow to rebound in spring, though it finally did.

Our stone fruit trees all have moved on from flowers to leaves now, and it is so odd to see them leafing out so early in March. I can't help thinking a late cold spell will hit sometime in the next month or two and will get all the fruit.
