Vintage Remix, how to?

I have an antique sofa that was reupholstered and still has an antique vibe and other Louis VXI style furniture. What can I add to the room to balance it and look more modern? Any suggestions for dos and do nots? I'm trying to avoid my grandmothers living room look.
