Fireplace Advice Requested

last modified: 10 years ago

Hello all,

My husband and I are in the process of renovating our house and would love some advice on what to do with the fireplace.

Quick background: The house was built in the 70's and had not been updated. We tore out everything and are in the process of refinishing it. It has an open concept, and the ceilings are low. We are planning on putting a television with a mount above the fireplace so the screen will be able to be adjusted as needed. There is an area for tile in front of the current fireplace.

We currently have a makeshift "entertainment stand" in front of the current fireplace area. Photos below.

^ before

^ current

^ current kitchen - will have subway tile backsplash

Our style is more on the modern/euro side and these are a few designs we have found on here and liked. We want to make sure what colors and materials we choose compliment the kitchen which is so close to the living room area. Here is what we're thinking:

NY Loft · More Info

Pacific Heights Residence · More Info

^ this would not be built up all the way up

All advice is appreciated. We just can't decide on what will work and what will look good together - we are also trying to choose something that won't break the bank. We've been doing most of the renovations ourselves with help from family, though I am not sure we will be able to do this with the fireplace. Thank you so much in advance, and please let me know if you have any questions!
