You have a beautiful room. I think I would rearrange the furniture in the following manner if space allows: Sofa opposite the fireplace, the two matching arm chairs before the window with table between them and leather arm chair with ottoman to the right of the fireplace. This arrangement will be more intimate and conversational - a point that won't be lost on potential buyers.

I'd love to see a stately round pedestal table centered on the area rug before the french doors. Topped artfully, it will make a breathtaking impact. A chandelier above it would be very fitting. If you're not keen on purchasing, look into renting a nice piece for open house. Antiques dealers will often make arrangements for staging purposes. I'd remove the items on either side of the doors.



I actually like the swoop valances. I think they are appropriate for the traditional style of the room and compliment the grandeur of windows nicely. I also like the rug you found. I'd try it and see how it works. Don't worry about playing it safe - I think that's a good call for staging a home to sell.
