Both are too busy IMO. They are also too cool. Granite has a warm tone.

Hi Mike. I would not go with any of the two samples that you pictured. Their patterns clash with that of the granite counter top. You are right, the granite is busy...so I would suggest a backsplash that is calm in tone. A solid, pale cream - that compliments both the granite and cabinet door colors, IMO.

I agree, none of those. They're grey and cool while the granite is gold and warm. A solid almond ceramic would work. I think white will still be too stark against the granite.

Your granite is not busy at all, very common. The products in the second photo do not blend well with what you're working with. Why not try a travertine? The item I have in my picture is by Interceramic and is called Mexican Travertine #Crema Imperial 3 x 6 bisello. This would blend much better with what you're working with.

I like the whitish color leaning against current backsplash. Do not like the one lying on the granite. Those grays do not work. Could you post a picture from further away?

Aren't the two sets of tiles at right angles the same colors? The same two gray tiles and the same two cream?

I like the cream tiles...after looking at the old backsplash, which is over the top busy, this one is going to look plain but in a good way. Most all of the well designed kitchens are using a single color backsplash. It's elegant and understated. That simple look will hold its ground and not become dated in a few short years (or months).

Michael - what design-style do you tend to gravitate towards? Do you plan to keep the same flooring and paint color (if so could you attach picture or describe in comments?) or do you anticipate changing those after the backsplash?

This is a mosaic that could possibly work. It's mother of pearl.

Imagine that you could stand 75 feet away from your counter. The details would disappear and the main color would come forward. That color would be a cream. That is the color you should try to bring out in the backsplash.

Paint will be gray. I was going to use BM smoke embers. Floor has to stay cherry. cabinets stay the same. LELE! Thank you! I like that. What is it? Where can I find it? Thank you all for your help.

Somewhere in the taupe/brown family would go well with the paint color, your granite counters and should complement your cabinets & floors nicely.
Just thinking outside the box - what about a stone backsplash? Or "stone-like" tile?

This project doesn't mimic yours entirely, but has some of the same details - grey paint, granite tops, bold floors. This was for a very rustic home... but there are many "stone-like" tiles out there that would give you a dynamic, natural look that won't be too overpowering.
