Will this tub fit?

My current bathtub has cracked and I am replacing a standard tub with a drop in whirlpool jetted tub. The current tub fits in a space that when measured from tiled wall to tiled wall is about 59" long. The tub I'm wanting to purchase is 60x36. If I am correct the 60" needs to fit stud to stud correct? My husband thinks the tub will be too big but I'm thinking we will have to remove tile etc and build a frame to drop the tub into. With tile and drywall gone it would fit.... right?

Generally the framing is 1/2" longer than the tub. Frame, mount the tub, finish wall work.

Simple answer is yes, you need 60" no matter what. Technical answer is that a drop-in is not designed for a tile surround to finish properly. Tubs designed for a tiled surrounds are alcove tubs with an integrated tile flange around the 3 sides. They provide for secure mounting, and an overlap for the proper tile application and water protection. Jetted tubs also need an access panel at the pump location for servicing, power access, etc.
