Primary Kitchen Sink Placement

Wondering about my primary sink placement. Please look at drawing below and let me know your thoughts. This is a WORKING kitchen not a showplace. I'd like to separate the cleanup area from the prep area. Does anyone else have this sort of design in your kitchen? In the design we do not have the island fully covering the primary sink. It will be visible from the bar and our casual dining area. Thoughts?

Ditto! If the sink is where drawn, not written, and you move the trash next to the drawing of the sink, you have a very, VERY functional kitchen that will be a pleasure to work in. And I bet it's going to be pretty, too. I hope you'll share progress photos and a final reveal. It's going to be awesome.

    I second the comments above.

One thing- make sure there is enough room in the breakfast nook area for an open dishwasher door not to conflict with a pulled out chair.

It's going to be a great kitchen!

Thank you for your input! The main sink is on the exterior wall in front of the window next to the bar. The accessory prep sink also has garbage disposal (will also move trash closer) as well is in the island. I was hoping to have a separate clean up zone not on the island. I wanted to leave most of the island free. Thoughts on this? Dishwasher next to each sink or both by main sink?

The plan looks good but without dimensions and knowing more about you and your needs, it's hard to know for sure.

How wide are your aisles? NKBA recommends 44" behind seating for people to walk past seated diners but that's without appliances opening in those aisles. You might want wider aisles than that since 2 island seats back up to appliance runs.

Do you really need 9 seats at the island? Or would 7 work? If you can eliminate the one across from the fridge and the one between range and clean-up sink, that would be better. For a working kitchen, it's generally better not to have seating in the work zone.

And yes, definitely make sure you have generous aisles between table and clean-up counter. Don't skimp here or you won't be able to accommodate people at the bar while people are seated at the table.

The walkways are 44 by refrigerator and 40 by stove. I agree about the bar stools. I think we are getting rid of the end stools at least the ones in the aisles. We are also cheat the table over and are not doing the wide doors to the porch. Those won't be opening into the room.
