Simple answer, Yes. Fish fertilizer is made from living organisms, fish, and they do spoil. The fertilizer made from those fish will also.

I will try one last time using it after shaking it real good and then increasing the amount i use per gallon. although the first year i bought it i could see a real difference in a plants couple of days after spraying with just few drops in a gallon. one last try and then it's in the garbage.

Rather than the garbage, you could dump it into the compost in case it still has something of value to add.

I love fish emulsion but it is def. a critter magnet. It helps to apply early in the day to dissipate the scent. I also alternate with other fertilizers so my garden doesn't smell like a fish market. I use old bottles w/o a problem and after a vigorous shake.

Yes, liquid organic fertilizers go bad. Each spring discard the old stuff and buy fresh supplies. Dry amendments will keep longer if they are stored in a cool dry place in an airtight container.

Plants don't eat fish; they eat mineral nutrients. Organic fertilizers like fish emulsion can lose nitrogen in form of ammonia, and sulphur in the form of hydrogen sulphide, but that should not have been significant if you kept it covered. Other plant nutrients generally remain right there.

Aria, the fish emulsion works perfectly well, fresh or otherwise :-) Or you can try a tea made from compost, alfalfa meal or comfrey. But all organic sources carry a very low nutrient load so you will need to reapply periodically.

Also, a previous comment alluded to "spraying" the fertilizer solution. Foliar fertilizer applications are highly inefficient - plants absorb very few nutrients via the foliage. Apply any liquid fertilizer solution (organic or otherwise) as a soil drench, applied to the plant's root zone, not its leaves.
