Thuja occidentalis 'Smaragd' is the popular instant green fence here - at this time of the year you even see people wheeling it out the door at Cost Co.

Thanks, not all of my lot gets sun especially during winter. Do these survive in this environment? I have seen some of them turn brown on other properties.

Growth will be less dense in significant shade - a problem you will have with anything, even more shade tolerant kinds such as yew. 'Smaragd' does have the particular limitation of being more prone to root rot than is usual for T. occidentalis cultivars - this is avoided by not planting where water puddles or the soil becomes otherwise boggy for extended periods. Those instances where you see a section (several plants together) of a 'Smaragd' hedge having gone brown there will likely be this or another environmental issue at work; after recent summers it could be drought much of the time, as even comparatively young or recent examples of the native, locally adapted T. plicata in sunny locations have been showing damage from this.

Tall oregon grape is nice and grows quickly once established. Someone in my neighborhood alternated tall Oregon grape with a tall ornamental grass and it looks very nice. The problem with hedges of one kind is that if a section dies out, it looks crappy. If you have more varieties of things growing it's easier to fill holes. You could also espalier a camellia or use a trellis/lattice in spots for a fast-growing vine. Bamboo can be lovely, but requires careful research and a root barrier for some varieties to prevent spreading.
