You can do a top mount. Maybe. An undermount sink of such a specific cutout is a bad marriage with no hope of divorce. Especially one on a diagonal like that that required cutting of the sink cabinet to even shoehorn it in. A 33" standard sink is gonna eat up the same hole that that does, but that has the additional offset that won't work with most replacements. You'd need to replace the stone. And if you're gonna do that, you should take the opportunity to tweak the layout so there isn't a corner sink.

Find a sink that's bigger and have it cut. The fabricator/granite person, if they'll even do it, will not guarantee your granite won't crack. You should have reserves to pay to replace your countertops in hand.

*maybe* contact a custom sink shop. Soapstone, granite, or maybe even stainless would be an option. I have to question on whether it would be cheaper to replace the countertops.

Go on a sink hunt. Somewhere in some corner of the planet is a NIB version of your sink sitting on a shelf marked clearance.

No one who has ever owned an Americrap sink ever wants another one. It's enamel and plastic. Even if you found one exactly the same, new in the box, and free, it's a terrible choice. Baltic Brown is a cheap granite. And recutting that hole to fit anything but a top mount isn't gonna happen. Top mount may not even happen without a creative flange.

Thank you for your helpful, and some not-so-helpful comments. The one on e-bay is not available; I had done that research already... We are selling the house, and we have quite extensive countertop area, so you can see why I don't want to put a lot of money into this project replacing all of the granite as well as the sink. I will research the suggestions made, and appreciate any others to be offered.

Can you have the sink reglazed like they do for bathtubs? Don't know...just asking. Hopefully more people familiar with that process will chime in.

You know how there's a way to "cover" a pink bathtub and make it white? Maybe the same technology could be used for your sink?

Yes, and there's a local facility that does reglaze, and I believe can change color. I will look into it as an alternative. Thank you for the suggestions rocketjcat and doctornancy.

Sophie Wheeler is wrong. That sink is NOT enameled plastic. It is enameled stainless steel that is fired just like enameled cast iron. After firing, the steel sink is cast in a hard resin about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick for rigidity and sound deadening.

I have had 2 such sinks in 2 houses (one black, one white), and they work well and are much lighter than cast iron. My sinks are single bowl and top mount with a common-size rectangular cutout. What I really like is the extra depth and the drain set in the back corner, which clears space in the cabinet below by moving the disposal to the back corner.

My current white sink is 15 years old and going strong.

If you're selling, why bother? I seriously doubt the sink will prevent someone from buying the house.

I had a project where the undermount sinks in a bath vanity looked too small to the client. The stone fabricator offered to come out and cut a larger hole for a larger sink. It's worth a phonecall to a local stone vendor so you can replace with a larger sink. Best of luck!

Whadda ya think ''resin'' is? It's plastic. And it's why it's called Americrap in the industry. And there is no stainless steel in it. It's ''cast metal''. I. E. Low grade crap steel. It has miles and miles of complaints about it for both sinks and tubs. Just get a coffee, and Google, and read for days.

Sophie: You said that it was "enamel and plastic". That wasn't true. The enamel is baked on metal just like it is on cast iron. Then the resin (plastic) is molded around it.

I don't have to read about the sinks on the web. I have lived with 2 Americast sinks in 2 houses for 20 years. And I'd buy one again. In a heartbeat.

I hear this all the time. People live with cracks and chips but the minute they're ordered by their realtor, they fix them for a stranger to enjoy. Makes no sense to me.

You're going to pay to have the sink fixed or replaced. You'll write a check to me now, or you'll write a check to the buyer at closing.

As a recent home buyer, I will tell you that the advice some people on here are giving of just covering the worn enamel in the bottom of this sink with paint is underhanded and terrible. Lack of disclosure just pawns the problem off to someone else at quite a considerable expense and pain in the backside. This is a terrible sink and when coupled with custom cut granite countertops as an undermount has left me in quite a predicament. My options are: pay to resurface, resurface myself (temporary fix), or hire someone who might be willing to cut the granite to fit a new option (risk having to replace all granite in kitchen if it cracks due to color match issues).

Have the cut-out recut, profiled and polished and the sink replaced. Your granite repairs beautifully, believe me. 24th reply down, please. Virtually no risk. $1,500.00 or so, sink and plumbing included.

Same thing happened to me with American Standard undermount sink. Was a defective piece of garbage sink! Corroded and discolored after just a few months. Had to reglaze sink because otherwise i would have had to replace the whole countertop! They apparently discontinued the sink because of so many complaints!

I replace sinks for a living. Countertops do not have to be replaced. Reglazing is a waste of money:

why did Americast not just stamp out a stainless steel Silouette replacement sink?? seems like that would fix a lot of the issues......

I have overlaid both sinks' profiles in photoshop here and looks like it might be a match. I will collect it from HD near me and give it a try.

Here is what I did and it worked great! Use a piece of stainless to cover the upper cut out. That Americast sink if the biggest piece of junk out there.

This may be an option for my discontinued American Standard Americast sink! Who would you contact to replace it and do this type of work? My current countertop is granite.
