Depends on where it is going and how much traffic. They have wide planks that look nice. There are several real choices in textures. Mohawk and Shaw have served me well. I do not have a large dog or unruly children who would torment the floors. Hope this helps.

If you are living in this house, why not just go with all wood? Engineered wood flooring can be sanded a couple of times before the top veneer is gone ( the top veneer that you see is 1/8th of an inch or less).

All wood flooring is solid wood all the way through and can be sanded down a lot of times and is more durable.

If you have a Lowe's or Home Depot in your area, I would walk in there and ask their experts to see each of the 2 flooring materials, ask about the differences, cost, and look at their best quality of each and ask WHY they consider it to be the "best." But stick with wood and don't consider the laminate floorings they may show you, those are a disaster fr anyone who's put them in.

Like anything else there is a good quality flooring and there is a cheap quality flooring.

Let's take standard 3/4" solid wood floor, which has a sandable "finish layer" which is approximately 5/16". Most manufacturers state that solid 3/4" floor can be sanded about 5-7 times over the lifetime span of the floor and they say that the life span is approximately 100 years with normal wear and tear.

If you take good quality engineered flooring with a top "finish layer" of 4mm (5/32" thick) as an example let say (and engineered flooring comes anywhere from .6mm - 6mm). that floor can be sanded 4-5 times over the lifetime of the floor and they say that under normal wear and tear engineered floor with a 4mm finished layer should last 60-80 years. If you use a 6mm (1/4" thick layer) it will last even longer.

Whatever you do, try to stay away from cheaper engineered floors which are usually 3/8" thick and they come with a paper thin "finished layer", most of these floors usually made in China.
