Try putting the sofa opposite the tv and moving the chair over to the sofa side, the chair is sticking out awkwardly into the walkway, let the new sofa position creat a hall from the front door, also a round table , perhaps glass would take some of the heaviness out of the room, try removing thing off of your tv console as it is reading as clutter

I had it that way initially, but then the chair sticks out into the walkway/hallway between the great room and kitchen area. I'll try it there and take another picture. I like the idea of a round coffee table

I would try the recliner by the window. Torchiere kind of reads funeral home. Would be nice to have side tables and reading lights. Maybe a larger tv and no or very few accessories on media stand. Maybe a very narrow table under art by the door and a runner leading to front door. I'm not sure how I feel about the half curtains. Would you think about fuller panels on both sides, something very simple?

Perhaps play with the long sofa in front of the window. settee facing the TV wall. I would suggest a less bulky coffee table if possible and turn it to horizontal to the TV wall. Yes I would move the recliner back to the open space as it is still allowing the room to be more open to the hall and stairway. Add an end table here and if possible reading floor lamp. You will need to get clever hiding the cord under the rug. I recommend mounting the TV and larger would look more proportional but working with what you have only wall mount if you can hard wire it into the wall.
Simply the decor on the entertainment cabinet top.
Add a narrow entry key table.
I agree with updating the lighting. A floor lamp and end table lamp.

The curtains are just hanging there to see if I like them...I have full panels for both sides. We never use the floor lamp so that's an easy thing to remove. Bluevine Studio... Are you saying to try the recliner in front of the window as well? I am looking for another coffee table...should I do light, dark, wood, glass, any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Based strictly on these photos (and photos can be very misleading), I suspect the problem is not position but colors. You have a very soft palette of off-whites and blues, with a dark brown recliner and hassock contrasting with everything. I am not an expert on this at all, so maybe someone else can chime in. How does she blend this dark chair with the soft room? I absolutely understand husband's wishes here (it looks comfy). Would a rug do it? Or different curtains?

I love my ottoman and it looked great in my last house...but I guess I need to face the fact it dosent work here so I can replace it...thanks for the suggestions

I don't think you have a bad arrangement. Do your Hubby a big favor and get a bigger TV. Also a lamp by his chair. Get a couple of new pillows and bring in another color to compliment the blue. Do you have room for a sofa table behind couch?

Yes, replace floor lamp with one with a shade.. IMO, if you love the ottoman, keep it, but put something on the tray to freshen it up.

Maybe an animal print. I have that lampshade and is beautiful. Also tie in with the brown leather.

Your current arrangement is fine. Maybe you could shift your rug over so more of the chair is sitting on it. If you could replace the loveseat with a chair it would be a big improvement. I like susan's suggestion to place a tray on your ottoman.

Keep the ottoman and spend that money on a bigger TV, and accessories.

Ok here it is with a couple of changes you all suggested...I know I need something for the left side of the TV..I'd like something taller with color...any suggestions? I will move the furniture when I have some help later....but do these few changes help?

If you are going to put something over the TV, bring them down to the sides also.

As some one said above..Mount the TV..Make it a 50":))..Get rid of the White Decorative table altogether..That piece of furniture feels like that largest and "Hard" piece in the room(compared to "soft" sofas)!

I too would suggest you angle the recliner in front of the window and put the two-cushion sofa so that it borders the hallway to create a "divider" effect. I would suggest you move the ottoman to a bedroom where you might place it across the corner of a room or at the foot of the bed. If the ottoman has storage, you could keep shoes and slippers in it. I would opt for small oval or round end tables to contrast from all the rectangles and squares you have in the TV room. I really do not believe you need a coffee table at all. I do like the white unit on which you have the TV, but I agree with other posters that you need to keep the top free of clutter that detracts from the TV screen.

I tried the recliner in front of the window, but in order to allow it to recline, it would have to be placed sideways..parallel to the window. That looked awful. If I move the recliner to the other side it is the walkway to the kitchen and that walkway is smaller

The house is brand new and the white cabinet is a built in, so it has to stay. If I get a new coffee table do I center it with the sofa? Will it look odd across from the loves eat.

No, I'm not saying to put the recliner in front of the window. I suggest it be back on the left, as facing the TV. It would flank the settee (love seat) in this case. For the table I was suggesting glass & wood or metal in the room style.

IMO some of the problem is scale. TV needs to be larger (and I can't believe I said that because I try never to put large TV's in a room). Then remove the items from left and just use the ones on right on TV console. It is too cluttered looking now. Lighter color curtains and a round coffee table, pillows with the blue and brown combination. Large and I mean large art on wall opposite TV - the hallway wall.

Kq- Also consider avoiding having the like wall decor so symmetrical (even). It you do really really like things equal then it is a must that they be placed the same on both halves. You have an them uneven in the picture with all 5.

A coffee table should be about 18" in front of the sofa. Looks so much better by adding the tray to soften the look of it. I'm in love with your beautiful ceilings. All the colors (except the dark bulky recliner) work in the room. I would go with drapes more the color of the walls or a lighter plain blue linen perhaps.

I would like to see the sofa across from the TV with the loveseat at a right angle in front of the windows. Pull the sofa closer in so you may have room for a sofa tble behind it for a long bowl for keys, plus table lamps & a plant.

See if the recliner can be positioned on the opposite side facing the loveseat, but so it can recline w/o blocking anything. Add a light throw over the recliner to soften the color. Put a small table next to it & add the torchiere lamp to this side. Since the ottoman may be closer to the sofa than the loveseat, add a pull up table to be used for wine or tea.

Suggestions for more updated & lighter colored recliners when you can get your hubby to agree to it:

Use an uplight in the corner where the wall meets the window to highlight those lovely ceilings.
