How should I decorate my bathroom shelves?

These are the shelves I have above my toilet and would like your opinion of what I should buy to decorate them with. Included is a picture of the rest of my bathroom for the colours.

Also what colour should I paint the basket?

Ignore what's on the shelves.

I like the suggestions. I would paint the metal basket lilac or one of the colors in your shower curtain. It'll be a nice pop of color!

I like the purple or gray color for rolled up towels, probably gray if you want to stay with your inspiration picture. I think if you stay with a green boxwood plant it would look nice. I have one in my bathroom I love (its fake).
Unless you see something you like with purple... can always go to Michael's or Hobby Lobby and buy some fake tulips. Sometimes they don't look as "real" as you'd like though. Your inspiration picture looks like real flowers but honestly who has the time to do that!

Premier Fine Homes, thank you for the color suggestions. Which way would you incorporate these colours? I'm afraid of having too many different colours going on.

What colors would you suggest the following items?

    Folded towels on shelf?

    Basket for wash cloths?

    Wash cloths in basket?

    Candle

    Plant/flower

Basket on top of toilet for toilet paper

I stopped at a few stores today and instead of buying and returning I took a few pic of items I thought might work. Would love to hear everyone's thoughts.

candles beige, cream, silver and than white bottom pic. Not sure if I should get something bigger or not?

    Basket for toilet paper?

The only greenery I found that was half descent.

    A few cute items. Thoughts?

LOVE the water pitcher and your original bicycle clock with folded towels, the frosted candle holder and some greenery. I don't think you would need any more than that so long as the scale is right. Good choices :)

Since you have a purple shower curtain, I would go the purple, green and gray look. The green candle, silver pail(or white pitcher) and basket for toilet paper

Looking good! Just keep your eyes peeled for nice greenery (boxwood type plant) or maybe just bring back the same colored face cloths and fold like your inspiration

This is a great idea and provides extra storage.

So far these are the only 3 greenery that j have found. Like?

I'm really hoping for some advice in the items I've found. I won't be offended.

what should stay and what should go?

Thought thus cute purple basket would match, but no. It's too bad.

One last pic, not enough face cloths, but just another idea.

Love the little purple plant you bought! How about this? I definitely think you need to add the facecloths so you repeat the towels.

Love the top shelf! Wouldn't change a thing. But the bottom still seems a little off. Maybe the toilet paper and the bicycle clock? The scale just seems too small to me.

Great idea. . I do love the way the top shelf is. Let me switch the bottom shelf and take a pic.

    What do you think?

I think that looks great! Not too cluttered. What do you think?

I really do like the bike clock. Does it look too small compared to the tp basket?

Is it ok not incorporating more grey?

In my opinion (and I'm not a designer), this is perfect! I've just put up similar shelves and this has been helpful for me too. Love it! Great job!

I'm really liking how my shelves are decorated here.

we had originally mounted them high like this thinking we would have the tp basket on the toilet. So now I feel like it looks weird without anything.

does the green plant look good there or kind if lost? Any suggestions?

I think I like the tp on the toilet ... I think its bugging me that there is something else on the toilet and its not tp.... what about putting tp back on toilet and just putting a box of kleenex on the shelves? Can you take a picture farther back? Sometimes its easier getting the full picture.

I think it looks lovely. Depending on how deep your shelves are (8 inches or more), you probably don't want them any lower or you risk bumping your head :) I had the same problem so I raised mine a little. Mine look a little higher than yours and they still look great! Even though we work hard at making things pretty....they still have to function.

Ok so my shelf is only 6" and this is the farthest back I could take a pic.

not sure if I like the Kleenex box on the shelf since it might be difficult for my kids to reach it and also the design of the box would change every time it's empty.

Hi @amderk! Love all of the suggestions! Think about succulents! That would be a perfect solution: elegant, low maintenance, real plants - real colors. Even tiny pots would make a big difference.

We think it would look great! Good luck!

Looking great, but I would tweak a little. Leave the white tp basket on the toilet tank, put the pitcher, purple plant and hand towels on the lower shelf and the bicycle clock and white candle on the top shelf. Nay on the kleenex box. I love having a candle in bathrooms, but you don't want it on the lower shelf, because if someone lights it, it is a fire hazard!

I would also swap the order. Pitcher on the right, facing in with purple plant and hand towels on the left, closer to the sink. Bicycle clock (very cute by the way) on the right and candle on the left on top shelf. The white and gray hanging towel looks out of place and draws the eye. Do you have another solid gray towel you could hang there?

Definitely play with swapping locations of things. I find it so much easier for me to swap and take photos and then look at them and change again, etc. What about doing more facecloths or hand towels on the bottom shelf instead of tp or other plant?

I definitely agree with deborah that it makes more sense to put hand towels closer to the sink and switching out the gray and white. Your bathroom is really looking great! I love the colors!

Love that bike clock! Where did you get that?

You have a hand towel by your sink. Would the towels make more sense closer to the shower for guests to grab?

Ok so yes I had originally bought the folded towels on the shelf to replace the hanging grey/white one. Make note to buy a few more.

i have the hand towel hanging there since it was the best place to hang near the sink.

The bike clock I bought from home outfitters and have also see it at Sears.

Lovely! I would just swap the bike and the candle positions. You've done a great job. Love the colors you chose!

Oh, and move the tp holder a smidge to the right so it is centered. Sorry, the OCPD coming out here!

Haha ok is this better? The candle doesn't look lost?

I personally like the two shelves switched. But, if I had a candle on a shelf I wouldn't expect anyone to light it (hopefully! lol)

I think it looks perfect! A pretty display and not too cluttered. I'm sort of a minimalist though when it comes to accessories; easier to clean!

Jill McK, I didn't expect it either, but one of my husband's golf buddies used our bathroom and apparently in an effort to cover up his "aroma", lit the candle on the shelf. Several hours later I smelled burning wood when I went down the hall. The candle was on a similar shelf, on the lower one, and the bottom of the top shelf was charred and smoking.

    Omg how scary.

Luckily I found it in time. I never assume that people will use common sense since that incident and plan for any possibility!

oh my goodness, too funny or not.

Am I the only one that thinks that candle is a fire hazard?

thank you for your concern, I am quite pleased the way my shelves turned out.
