Mantle

Any advice on what I should do with this Mantle. We are taking down the clock and adding a nice big piece of art. But this mantle is an eye sore.

Yeah, I'd prefer removing, with replacing (with a solid rustic beam) as second. Third choice would be painting it a darker shade of your wall color, so it semi disappears, and then just hanging your art above it.

It really would help to see a photo of the FP and mantel. This one is not a good view. Take one that is facing FP. And attach it to your post not to your Houzz profile.

From what I can see, if you are unhappy with the mantel take it off.

No, I can't...we are also going to paint the fireplace grill a matt black. Our color scheme is beige and gray....not sure if we should paint it.

It can't be removed without lots of expense....the stone was built around the mantle but your rendering looks great.

Since you can't remove it, I would get a FP screen to give the firebox some add'l height. Then paint the mantel, maybe get some support blocks underneath to fill in the gaps from the bottom of mantel to the firebox. Then hang art.

If you can't remove it, paint it in the color of the stone so it will disappear.
