Spice Twice

I inherited several roses when I purchased my house, most of which were unidentified. This is one of my favorites, very prolific with large coral fragrant blooms. I just found an old metal tag on the root base which identifies it as Spice Twice. I posted some pictures of blooms on the Name That Rose! forum last year and based on the response, figured that it was either Fragrant Cloud or Tropicana. This rose doesn't seem to be for sale anymore, does anyone else have it?

I'm glad you were able to find the name tag! It looks very healthy and happy. Post more photos when it blooms!

Matthew, I don't currently have this rose, but I did have it for several years, I really liked mine. It very much reminded me of Tropicana, but was more vigorous, and the blooms were a little different. I miss mine. Yours looks very healthy.

I had it way back in the 90s. It was a test rose. I ended up giving it to my mom. I tried taking some cuttings a couple months ago, but they didn't go. I'm going to try again sometime this spring. The plant is really tall... like well over 6ft and around 3ft wide. Blooms great every yr without any care! I like it better than TROPICANA. Has a little bit of a creamy reverse.

Spice Twice is definitely a bicolor, orange top with white reverse. Sometimes it can look like another rose called Artistry. I used to have both of them. I wish I could get Spice Twice again, but it has somehow disappeared from commerce as far as I know.

That's a beautiful bloom, very full.

Edited to add that Tropicana is one of my least favorite bushes because it is a mildew magnet, up and down the canes. I whacked it off at the ground intending to remove it but was unable to dig out the substantial root ball. It grew back beautifully and has looked better ever since. Still not a fave.
