Dried up Camellia

I feel stupid. I overwintered few of my potted Camellias in a garage. One ('Unryu') I somehow missed to water and it completely defoliated when I touched it to move it outside. It's been outside for a month now and I noticed a sign of life, new leaf buds forming on branches. I scraped a small branch and it seems that the entire plant is still alive just defoliated. Besides staying on top of a watering what else can I do to help it recover?

Just keep it moist and in partial sunlight , also a little bit of cottonseed meal might help encourage new green growth.

Thank you for the suggestion of cottonseed meal. I was hoping I can boost its growth with a mild fertilizer.

It's unwise to fertilize a stressed woody. It pushes new growth but uses the plant's reserves to do so. Right now, the best use for those reserves is to help the plant leaf out as well as it can.

It would be best to move the shrub into its permanent home. If that's in the ground, delay any fertilizer until at least next year.
