Yes, dfaustciancy, I have planted peony tubers in the spring after I impulsively bought a bag of 10-12 (can't remember) named and multi-colored from Costco a few years ago! I soaked them before putting them in the ground. Is that what you plan to do?

A few them did not survive but all the rest blossomed. These are thriving and have multiple eyes this season. Of course, I don't expect lush growth out of them for several years. That same year I also put in one 'Coral Sunset' potted peony that I bought at a garden center. Because it had been growing in the pot, 'Coral Sunset' is much larger than the others.

Glad to hear you planted 'Bowl of Beauty' .... that's one I had at my old house and I really miss it.

Pots are now in a window in the basement and they have broken dormancy and are the buds are starting to color up and reach out. They'll be staying there until Memorial day when I'll put them outside (shade) to harden off for a bit before permanent planting. Probably won't get a flower this year, but I can dream, can't I?

You can put them out on warm days and bring them in on cold days and nights if you want. They will do better that way and take less hardening off since they have broken dormancy than if you try to grow them by a basement window. A wheelbarrow to easily move them into and out of the garage, or just take the plants out as you head out to work if the temperatures are above freezing.

If it's any comfort, after my grandmother died, I divided and brought back a couple Festiva Maxima peony roots from plants that my grandfather had planted many years prior. This was mid-July, and they survived and grew just fine after a couple of days wrapped in damp paper towels. So I imagine that at least some of yours should survive.

Yes, that makes sense. Bringing them in and out will be no problem. Nights are so dang cold -- under 32, so they won't be out at night till end of May!

Cold is more like under 28. For hardy plants, freezing isn't the cutoff point it is for tomato plants etc.
