Dark Wood

Hello!
I am acquiring a 1959 MCM and I do want to update a lot of things. But I'm scared that I will lose the essence of the property being an MCM.
I want to replace the kitchen and dining flooring from a ceramic tile to darker color laminate. (deep brown close to black) Will this work? Or should I stick to a dark ceramic tile or slate?
