Since it's coming up now would guess Hedychium or maybe zingerber if exposed to cold. There are many members to the many families .Many are winter dormant regardless of the weather while some are evergreen if not exposed to cold weather. If it remains evergreen through the winter indoors it might be Alpinia Many look much alike except when they flower lol

There are not only many species there are many hybrids but sprouting at this time of the year would guess Hedychium.Alpinia or maybe even Etlingera but not if it remains under 3 feet through the growing season. Another possibility is Globba but if not exposed to cold usually remain dormant until April .IME

Thanks for all the great help! I think I will leave it potted so I can easily bring it in for next winter but it's likely pot bound. I think I will put it in a larger home made self watering pot with some good soil and see what happens. If it blooms I will post a photo then.

Love the ginger family but hate the habits lol i grow around 25 kinds, I keep most of mine in pots mostly because of the dormancy . That way when they die down I can move them out of the garden and provide the dry period also they need rather rich soil.

When it flowers you'll get a positive ID. Good luck gary
