Where to buy "only" a vanity cabinet?

We won't be using a designer/contractor to redo our bath and are looking to buy a 54 inch vanity.

I checked with one of the big box stores and they gave me a price on a Kraftmaid shaker style with the only extras being plywood and a finished side on one side. The other side will butt next to the wall. They said our choice was midrange. It is $1700 for this (no top). I also got a price for a quartz top of $1000 from them--no installation on either of these.

Do cabinet makers or kitchen/bath stores sell "only" one vanity? I'm thinking that this is too small of a purchase for them to care. I was planning on getting a top made from a fabricator from a remnant . I am lucky that we have several in the area.

So the BBS wants almost $3000 for this which I think is high. I know cabinets seem to be crazy expensive but wondering about other options of where to buy just a single cabinet.

Thanks!

I was looking at medicine cabinets at kitchen and bath stores. One was Fergusons and the other 2 were local. If you find a vanity you like, you could check where they sell these. Omega and Bertch were a couple of the brands.

I don't think kitchen stores (cabinetry) would be inclined to sell just a vanity, but bathroom/plumbing stores like Ferguson's - definitely. However, I also don't think you'll find anything for $1700 at one of those stores.

I assume you are in the U.S. But if you are in Canada or not too far to drive, our Co-Op hardware sells a lot of individual cabinets that are quite nice looking. Often they come with the top and a sink. I expect you could opt to get your own also. Rona also sells a lot of individual cabinets. Maybe some of the smaller 'Box' stores would serve you better. Even our Home Depot has lots of individual ones that aren't special order.

This place sells Vanities and for Bertch and Omega med cabinets, my local prices were about the same.

Look at kohler.com and maybe some other manufacturers that sell cabinets if your size is a standard size. Then go to build.com and see what they have. I got my kohler vanity cabinet and most of my fixtures from them several years ago (their faucetdirect site, IIRC). They have a lot of suppliers. Call them if you need to talk. You may have to pay freight but it may be worth it. Do your research (reviews, shipping, returns, promo codes, etc.) I love my kohler cabinet. The pieces didn't fit together perfectly, but they were good enough for me and the overall effect is beautiful.

I ordered a small 30 inch bathroom vanity with a granite top from a local building store. That type of store sells carpet, tile, bathroom fixtures...all kinds of home improvement items. We did go to a kitchen design store and they would have ordered the same vanity for us, but it was much cheaper from the building center.

I had a beautiful cabinet made by a local cabinet maker, with some custom touches for about half that price. I'd look there before I'd get ready made at that price!

Look at Restorationhardware.com you can get just a vanity or the vanity and top.

I got a solid wood vanity from HD on scratch and dent for $300. It is really solid and very nice looking. The counter was badly scratched so I pitched it and got a remnant from the local stone yard. They had a deal for $500 with sink. $3000 seems kind of ridiculous. For our other bathroom, we did what Olychick suggests and had it custom made from a local guy for about $500.

I agree with Olychick ... Look local first. Some big box stores sell the cabinet/base only but only in certain sizes. I needed a 72" vanity and it's not a popular size like it was back in the 90s... I did find a couple of one piece 72" vanities but they didn't fit my style so I went to ProSource and was quote 2x 30" and 12" center... $1600-$1700. I ended up going with a local cabinet guy who built me a one piece inset cherry cabinet - $1050. I love it!

Do you have a Restore in your area? They get new display cabinets and vanities, I purchased a sample with all the bells and whistles for $35, yes it's dovetailed and a plywood box.

Or...Buy n' build will ship flat and you assemble...great quality too!

We bought a dresser on craigslist for $300 (with matching mirror), and had remnant of quartz cut to match the curved front of the dresser. It turned out really great looking. I had to do some carpentry mods to two of the drawers, but not a big deal.

I bought mine from Siegel Design Center in Ohio, just a small remodeling company but shipped a kitchen and have on individual as well. Some of the options were high on the vanities depending on plywood or mdf or how many drawers and painted or cherry wood... They gave me a couple of options but I don't think that price is outrageous.
