I have textured ceilings as you can see in the picture below. I am inspired by white plank ceilings I have seen, and I decided to take on this project to cover my textured ceilings that I dislike.

I bought these boards that I planned on painting white. I then planned on installing them by using liquid nail and a pneumatic finishing nail. This is the directions I have seen on a number of you tube videos and different blogs documenting this exact same project.

However, I have had a wrench thrown in my plan when my husband was getting ready to install and his friend said that liquid nail will expand and pop the plank off the ceiling right on to my head.

Additionally he said even if I install the nail at a 45 degree angle into the rafter the gravity will pull the nail out over time.

Does anyone have any experience with liquid nail or other construction adhesives? Does anyone have any experience in this kind of installation?

I am getting frustrated and getting ready to abandon this project. Thank you for your help in advance.
