I should have added that I'm in the upper portion of zone 8.

I have mostly shade to dappled shade. The plant is now on my back deck where it's getting almost full sunlight and seems to be enjoying it but it's early in the year. I really do not want to keep it as a potted tree, I prefer them to be in the ground. I'm just very limited with the sunny locations.

This makes 30 that I have acquired since last fall, I have at least 10 more on my "to get list" plus any others that I deicide that I just have to have.

I have tried to not duplicate any but there's a couple that I needed to so things would match and then a couple that I rescued from a friends house.

A geographic description of where you are is more helpful than saying zone 8. One zone 8 can be very different from another. The usda zone system is dumb, not very descriptive of climate and only somewhat useful at predicting cold hardiness of plants.

But good luck with your tree I've always wanted a Mikawa yatsubusa.

When it comes to growing JM's, anywhere in zone 8 is likely to be quite suitable, even those areas that are hot and dry zone 8's (like parts of TX), as long as proper siting and watering is considered.

Maybe garden gal but his original question couldn't be answered without better information all day sun in Austin Texas will likely kill it. All day in Seattle is probably fine

Todd, I've been doing this a long time and I am well aware of differences in climates in specific hardiness zones. However the OP was quite specific in the cultivar being sited and MY is known for both its sun and heat tolerance and can be grown in full sun anywhere provided it receives adequate water and all other growing conditions are to its liking. And that includes Austin TX!! IN fact, there is a large JM nursery located in Fort Worth that specializes in heat ans sun tolerant JM's suited to that climate. As noted in my first post on this thread, I did say that partial or dappled shade is an ideal situation for most JM's, but I've seen them growing and thriving in some pretty harsh situations, like full sun in SoCal. Georgia is a piece of cake compared to that!!
