Turquoise or aqua subway glass tile or mosaic would give some color

White high gloss ceramic tile with slightly beveled ends for a little texture in your contemporary
kitchen, set in a brick pattern running bond

Painted glass backsplash. In any color you want!

great bones to this kitchen. If you wish to keep simple & classic the white subway would be super. Consider a long thin tile, stacked rather than offset as more contemporary.

Also worth consideration is glass mosaic. The stainless tiles as illustrated from eagledzines is a beauty too.

Given everything is neutral, its also an opportunity to feature a favorite colour punch. IF the colour is flowing thru the rest of environment. Lime green, aqua, orange, etc... all could have relevance if they are used in some way elsewhere. Keep in mind, that might be an area to change sooner as colour trends do move along, but easier than changing many other surfaces.

This would be nice. You can bring color in with accessories.

What a beautiful kitchen, the counter tops are gorgeous.

Have you considered using a custom mosaic back splash? You can see some examples of what we do here:

Always think about resale....a blue or dark or other colored backsplash can turn off some buyers who don't like the color your chose. Stick with the white subway suggestion listed above and you can always add pops of color with accessories. This also allows you to change the colors of your home easily if you tire of one.

Unless you are planning on leaving in the next five years do what you want. Darzy idea is one I us and like very much. It is easy to replace if installed correctly.

Your space is neutral, choose what you love- back splashes are easily replaced if someone doesn't like it. Just choose something that is easy to maintain and clean, I assume you will want to go all the way up behind your cook top and vent. You need to be able to clean grease of of the tile easily. What a beautiful kitchen! I would love to see some color.

Love the green and turquoise ideas. You always stay in a home longer than you think. Agree do what you love unless you are redoing to sell then just go neutral

Because your Kitchen and Living Room are open plan I'd be sure that the tile for the backsplash and the walls in the other room/s are happy together! Personally I'd look at something a little unexpected for backsplash. Linear mosaic combining light colored glass, tmbled stone and stainless steel would be cool. It's not that I don't like Turquoise but I thnk that it will cut the Kitchen off in a way that will be unflattering. Take a floor tile or a pic of the tile with you when you go shopping.

I have dark cabinets much like yours, and I have the open space plan. I did a beautiful glass and stone mosaic with bamboo, light aqua and some copper Colors. I love texture, that is why I chose a mosaic with copper accents, it looks great with my dark granite. It also matches all of my copper accents such as cabinet door pulls, fans, and lighting features.

It is a beautiful focal point. Pick colors that are friendly to the entire area, one that you really love.
