Hi! I am outside of Charlotte (won't put NC after it because the chamber of commerce types get all offended...they think CLT should stand on its own like Atlanta or Detroit, lol!) I found GW during our custom build 5 years ago...it was so helpful with my kitchen! I have drawers bc of you all! :) I stay because I am obsessed with houses and design. It is nice to find a space with others who are similarly obsessed.

Massachusetts - just North of Boston. Where homes are old and expensive, but full of charm. I live in an old Cape Cod style home and found this site when researching a major kitchen remodel in 2012.

Linelle & Carrie, I have a BIL who lives at Shannon Rd & Bonnie Ln. in LG.

kalapointer, I've driven past Bonnie Lane so many times over the years. My SIL still owns the family house on Shannon @ Short Rd. but rents out the main house and spends the summer in a guest house over the garage. If the Google street view photos are accurate, either new trees have been planted along Shannon or they've just grown a lot.

I'm in the Seacoast Region of New Hampshire. We live in DH's hometown where I met him when my family moved here in the early '70's. After marrying, we moved across the border to southern Maine for 20 years where we raised our family. We returned here 14 yrs. ago when the kids left the nest so I could help care for my parents.

In 2006 we bought land and built a place in the NH Lakes Region, fulfilling DH's lifelong dream to own a vacation home where our family could gather. I found Gardenweb when I was researching appliances. Though our build was well underway, I was still able to apply some of what I learned here. The KF was again a trusted source when we remodeled our home's kitchen in 2014.

In between my projects I enjoy checking in on what people are doing in Kitchens, Cooking, Home Decorating and its Conversations side, which I recently discovered.

I still can't believe how many good people are on these GW sites who continue to share such solid, thoughtful and friendly advice year after year.

I'm in upstate NY in the FingerlAkes region, about 40 min south of Rochester. I've lived in the region my entire life, but this is our first house.

I live in the Black Hills of SD about 20 miles from Mt Rushmore. I grew up in Mass and lived in California before moving here in 1984. I am an avid reader of GW, but do not post much, mostly furry kids......

We're in Southern NYS, though people in NYC (and even in Northern NJ), will refer to our area as "upstate" NY! We find this hysterical, considering we are not only one of the southernmost counties in the state, but we're only about 40 min. north of midtown Manhattan (without traffic, of course)! LOL Our proximity to NYC has afforded us the opportunity to get-together on occasion with other GW'ers, either living in, or visiting the area.

We reno'd the kitchen in our 1967 bi-level house (called a hi-ranch in this area) in 2007. I found GW in late 2006, when we started planning the reno, and began the demo. I mostly lurk these days (bathrooms, kitchens, home dec, etc.) but will sometimes chime in on various threads to comment or answer a question.

I'm in Tampa, Fl. I was born and raised here with the exception of college (Gainesville) and grad school (South Orange, NJ).

While I loved being so close to NYC for the 3 years I lived in NJ, I despised the winters!

Waving madly at Carrie B. I'm in Philadelphia -- center city. (We've messaged each other, but I've changed my screen name, so you didn't recognize me.) I'm originally from a little town in the middle of the state, but I've lived most of my adult life in Philly. I started hanging out here a few months ago because I desperately want to obliterate the horrible orange tile kitchen that came with the house I bought a mere 25 years ago. The kitchen is tiny, but it packs a lot of ugly into a small space. Uncertain when I'll actually get around to starting the project -- I thought I knew what I wanted, but then I met GW. Mind blown. (P.S. -- there's another Philadelphian here, but I'll leave it to her to decide if she wants to out herself.)

I live in Potomac Falls, VA. It is 30 miles NW of Washington, DC. But I was born and raised in India. Joined Houzz about a couple of years back when I was searching information about kitchen renovation which I still have not started:-).

I'm in Portland OR 'burbs and I *know* I'm not the only one here but so far, the others haven't surfaced.

I joined GW in '99, back when Spike was king and would send you to "Disneyland" if you misbehaved. =) I didn't wander into the kitchen forum until 2009 when I started dreaming about remodeling my kitchen. Only took me 7+ yrs to realize my dream. Soooo worth the wait!

Sherri and DawnT, My parents were from Manitoba too! She was from Gladstone and he was from Plumas. They moved to Ohio in '63 and started our business in '83! I still visit family in Winnipeg and Vacation at my Aunt & Uncles cottage at Falcon Lake (Whiteshell Provincial Park)!

Wow Kompy, it is a small world! I remember road trips to Gladstone playing high school sports and I have friends in Winnipeg that also have cottages at Falcon Lake.

I live in the Baltimore-DC area - b/w Frederick, MD, and Baltimore, MD.

I grew up in Western NY. After college, I moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area for a couple of years b/f moving back to the Buffalo area. A few years later, I moved to Maryland and have been here ever since - over 30 years now!

I joined GW in 2007 when I was debating whether to get granite or quartz. (I went with granite, btw.)

Fist, I lurked, then I asked my first granite question.

I then gathered up my courage and posted my layout - and had it torn apart! Yes, I also had to work through my layout - and it took me 3 or 4 months to finally come up with the final layout. Thank goodness I took the time!

Later, GWers also helped me through the many issues I had during the remodel - thank you everyone!

I still love my kitchen almost 8 years later - all thanks to GW!

Eastern Washington state, about five miles from the Idaho border. We had snow this morning (about two inches) but it was melted and sunny by 2pm.

I don't remember when I joined GW, but it's been a few years. Right now, we're moving my mom down to live with us and having a LOT of fun! We are planning our new kitchen garden (even with the snow) and it's going to be huge! LOL

As for our kitchen, when it warms up, I'll finish painting and post pictures. I promise!!! : )

I was born in Kansas City - parents lived in Johnson County KS. Grew up in Topeka, moved to St. Louis. My parents retired to Springfield MO where they lived in the Phelps Grove Park area. Lived in LA for 3 years before moving to KY nearly 32 years ago. As you can see, I'm older than dirt!

Kompy & Sherri, wow! I live a mile out of Gladstone! Hubby's family is all from this area. You would be familiar with the Paris café and Riverdale Hutterite Colony? I've made many friends over the years there...

Dawn, wow!!! You are close! And yes I have eaten at the Paris Cafe and I'm sure Riverdale is where my grandmother taught. She and my Auntie Mabel also taught at Gladstone schools. I also remember McLeods and the amazing cinnamon rolls at the corner bakery! I still have family there. I wonder if you know them. My cousins are Tom and Ken Otto (Verna & Linda) and their kids. My grandparents were Mervon & Thelma Carefoot (step: Sylvester Mowat). Are you from Gladstone or just your husband? This is Crazy!! :-)

That's so cool, Dawn! I'm in utter shock! I did figure, though, that chances were good that you would at least have known of them. Population: 879. But your husband plays pool with Tom and Ken??? ps. Is Thomson a relative of my step-grandpa Sylvester??? I'm recalling that name on his side but not sure if this memory is correct.

No apologies necessary--this is a mixer. :) I remember when I first came to GW, reading a thread in which, after a few interchanges, one member asked another, "Are you, by any chance, my sister?" The other GW member's name was her actual first and middle names, and her sister, with whom she'd lost touch, recognized her! I don't remember the forum--possibly on the garden side--or the posters' names, although I thought I'd always remember them, but how cool is that?

Been living most of my adult life in Roanoke, VA but have built a new home for our next stage of life in Bar Harbor, ME! We are back & forth a lot right now but will move permanently to ME summer 2017. My heart is in Acadia!

Colorado!!! Born and raised in So. CA; couldn't wait to leave. I never thought I was meant to live there. When I decided to move to Colorado, all my friends told me that there were just cowboys and indians out there. Yeah, so? I love it here and now our kids have all settled here too. Hard to leave such a great state. We also love the east coast, Maine especially, and we love to vacation in Portland, OR where my sister lives.

Been in the Wasatch Front (Sandy, UT) for over 25 years. I am accused of having web feet due to being from Washington State (Kirkland). Hope to retire in Nevada to be in between great states, near an airport that has flights to Europe and pay no state income tax. Cruised Houzz and Garden Forum with MasterBath remodel. We are now on our 3 rd home with multiple DIY home and garden improvements. Have been to many of the states everyone is from. Do not mind living in our Leisure Van for short periods of time.

Crystal Lake, Northwest suburbs of Chicago. I'm not a native, originally from England. I have lived in the states for 30 yrs, all over ...NYC, So Cal, NC, HI, PA,CO, MN, DE, and now IL.

DH will be retiring in about 20 months ( not counting!! ) and we will be moving back to CO, to build our "done roaming" mountain home. Hopefully we'll not have to move till they take us us feet first!!!

Grays Harbor County, on the Washington state coast. The Pacific Ocean coast, not on Puget Sound, LOL. I live about 10 miles from the coast and beaches on the inner-harbor.

First joined GW a long time ago but only active the last few years when we started to think about our kitchen remodel. I pop into other forums once in awhile but generally just post here.

Zones? Arghhhh!!!!! Most put us in zones 8 or 9 which is the same as places like Atlanta and, believe me, our weather is nothing like Atlanta. So I use Sunset's zones, more accurate for our area. Sunset Zone 5. But it's hard to figure out what's what and what will work here and how, unless you're reading a Sunset book. Yup, arggghhhhhh!!!

Seems I'm a bit a of a rarity in that I'm still in the same So. CA town I was born in 64 years ago. In fact I've lived on the same street in three different houses for 54 of those years!

Midway between L.A. and San Diego, it was a small sleepy beach town in the late '40s when my parents, (Dad also a native, Mom a New Yorker) settled here to raise a family.

Edit to add: We moved away in 1996 to Lake Oswego OR.... Nine weeks, and 27 inches of rain later, we were headed back home to the beach, fortunately we kept our house! ;)

Modellie - I've just returned from trip to CH a couple of weeks ago. While there, I stayed at my sister's and bil's new condo in Züri, they live right by the Hauptbahnhof on the Europa Allee. So cool to live right smack in the center city. While there, DH and I briefly imagined returning back home to retire...that is, until we considered the extremely high cost of living... that quickly put an end to our daydreams - I believe Zürich is now the world's most $$$ city to live in. Crazy and sad really.

When the kids were little, we used to take them to the Swiss Club's 1.st of August party every year. We haven't attended for more than a decade now, but yes, I'm game. Let's meet at the Swiss Club 1st of August Fäscht. I'll message you once we receive the invitation.

We'll be starting the kitchen reno once we're done building the new laundry space. Once the W/D are gone from the mudroom, we'll be able to rip out walls and expand the kitchen. We're almost there.

I live in Dallas, TX. I really can't remember how I found GW but I sure wish I found it sooner! I stumbled upon it when we were wrapping up a whole-house remodel that took over a year to complete. I made changes where I could based on information I gained from this forum and others. You guys really know your stuff!

I live in a suburb south of Detroit - about 35 miles from the Ohio border. I too can see Canada from my house (it's 13 miles to the bridge)! I joined GW in 2010 I think. After our kitchen remodel (insurance job), but before we added our island. And the Bluestars. And . . . GW has shown me many of the finer things in life :)

I'm late to the thread, but it's taken a while to read through (and marvel at) all of the replies. I'm in Seattle, home for the last 25 or so years, which seems astonishing since I feel like I just got here. Originally from Minnesota, with a number of moves in between while growing up and going to school here and there.

I found GW a couple of years ago when everything I googled while thinking about a kitchen upgrade led to it. So many good ideas here will be showing up in our remodel . . . once we get into it. I'm now searching for a couple-of-week interim place to stay since we have to get out of our rental in three weeks but our house isn't ready to move back into. Ugh.

Hi, I'm in Ann Arbor, MI. I joined Garden Web a few years ago when we were just starting to plan our new house. I gained so of useful information on GW and I credit GW for my Lacanche purchase! I read every thread about it I could find. I still look here for answers to any of my questions and I'm trying to get my husband to finish the rest of the basement now so I can do more on this site!

We just might be neighbors as I too live across from Northern Kentucky. We live in Anderson Township. Just started reading Garden Web this week.

Currently living in central Florida and joined GW in 2013 when we were building our second/retirement home. Have learned so much here! Grew up in Michigan and Ohio and also lived in Oxford, OH while my father taught at Miami University (I think that makes at least 3 of us here with a Miami U connection!!). Spend most of my time the Home Decorating thread as it has been a lifelong passion for me.

Missouri resident all my life. I'll be caring for a sibling here, so we will live here the remainder of our lives. I suppose if I had the chance to live anywhere else, it would probably be Texas. I was originally an Ikeafans member during the beginning. Found my way here and so glad I did!

Park city, Utah here! A ski town about 35 min from SLC. Moved here about 18 months ago and I'm still not used to the sheer quantity of snow! Grew up in the mountains of Virginia though and moved to Northern California for about 8 years before ending up in Utah!

Guess what every year is different in Utah. 25-30 years ago there was far more snow. This is the first year in greater than 10 years that we have had this much snow and moisture. It has been a very grey March.

Hi, All! I live in a suburban area of Portland, OR with my husband and two small kiddos whom I homeschool.

When I was in fourth grade my favorite tv show was This Old House (With Bob Villa!) and I was always drawing floor plans. My dad worked construction and didn't think very highly of architects or designer types, so my parents encouraged my university studies in a different direction.

Fortunately--twenty years later--I found myself totally redesigning our little fixer upper and loving ever minute if it. Our house project has made me realize my love of floor plans is in fact my passion. Even better is that I found my way to GW where fellow floor plan lovers and floor plan needers (?) gather :-) I love this forum!

Benjesbride, I've done the same thing for years.....use graph paper and draw house plans. My husband always tells me to use a computer, but it's a way for me to relax putting pencil to paper. :-)
