Could you put the table on the stair wall and the Bench on the opposite side?

There are at least three different floor coverings in your photos, so it seems you are showing several different areas. Is the entry door a sliding door (near the bench)? At least allow your guests to come inside before being asked to remove shoes. You must provide a shoe tray or a specific spot where they should put them.

If you are going to require guests to remove their shoes, you must provide a bench or chair with enough space that they can sit on to comfortable take off/put on shoes. Not everyone is comfortable balancing on one foot, or crouching down to tie shoes. It would also be nice if you provided house slippers for those of us who hate walking around in our stocking or bare feet, or at least a warning to guests before they come so they can bring their own.

I like the second choice

I have tried both. Despite my best efforts, a table near the door collects stuff and requires constant attention to keep it from becoming a mess. It seems a bench is a lot less tempting place to drop keys, bags, gloves, etc.

Agree with the previous comment, it serves the purpose of changing shoes rather than just decorating the entry way in the upper picture.
