Are you sure they don't have a bulb instead of a root?? That foliage looks like a lot of different bulbs, as does the still forming flower head (asparagus-looking thing in last photo).

In the PNW with rampant growth at this time of year, I'd think it was some sort of Hyacinthoides (aka scilla or bluebell). These spread like crazy, can seed anywhere and are almost a weed but a quite pretty one.

It could have a bulb at the end. Where my thumb is, is where it comes out of the grass. The rest is all under. So I don't really want to dig that far down unless I need to.

Wish yu hado waited until it bloomed because that makes it easy to complete the ID.

Looks like Spanish bluebells, Hyacinthoides hispanica.

It looks like it's coming from the yard on the other side of that fence; can you see over the fence to check if your neighbor has it growing on their side? Perhaps they will know the identity.

If Flora's wise suggestion is the ID, you're in for a treat!
