Parrot Tulip--is this from an insect?

This container has Estella Rijnveld and Black Parrot tulips and are planted in a container (zone 7B)--I've had great luck in general but it looks as if these leaves are being eaten up. Or is it some virus? It's on a few leaves in that regular "zipper-like" pattern. I'm new to gardening so forgive me if this is obvious.

Not obvious to me. I look forward to seeing responses as off the top it doesn't look like bug damage.

Looks like damage done before the leaves unfurled. Judging by the healed wounds the pest is long gone.

I think floral-uk is probably correct in that the damage was done before the leaves unfurled (now that I look at it more closely). I'm hoping that I get a bloom without damage; I just wasn't sure if there was anything that I could've done to either predict or to prevent this bizarro marking. Weird.
