Is that what is on the lower part of the house? I would think about a board & batten type james hardie siding on that portion. Adding side rails and a porch roof will also be good for curb appeal. Shutters of an appropriate size on the four single windows can be done also. Or only on the upper single windows at second thought.

Thank your for your feedback... I've attached a color photo, and an edited version of the "sketch form" with a front porch. It would mean dropping the entrance floor and door down, but my husband wants a porch across the front an down the sides. I'm not sure there is enough room between the top right window and the door.

I'll take a look at the siding you recommended.

You need a front porch on the left side of the house with the floor just below the downstairs windows and with the shed roof just under the upstairs windows -- except that you need a gable for the porch roof over the door. Emphasis on gable over the door.

You might could add faux stone panels over the concrete block. It might require some work on the frames of the downstairs windows but would be well worth it. Wouldn't matter if window frames were not redone on the upstairs if you add the full width front porch, at least 6' deep.

The gable over the door would need to rise well above the shed roof of the rest of the porch.

Thank you, suezbell. I had thought about a gabled roof over the door, but my husband has the shed roof in mind. Thanks for adding the photo. Maybe that will help him "see" the possibility of the gabled roof.
