Complete newbie designing a bedroom

Hello Houzz community,
I recently purchased a house that needs to be decorated. I've never cared about the decor until now so I need some help.

We recently redid our floors and bought a new bed set that comes with the side tables and a dresser. But my dilemma is I can't decide on a color scheme for this room and deciding what other things will make this bedroom more cozy. I know I'll need curtains, bed lamps, rugs and artwork, but can anyone suggest anything else?

Can someone help me with some color palette ideas that might work? I'm interested in new colors for the curtains, bedsheets, rug and anything else. Aside from the bed frame and the floor, we're pretty much starting from a blank slate.

Hi Gary! A big decorating goal is proportion. Big bed calls for tall lamps, window treatments 95" tall that go from floor to ceiling. Gives height to the room. Large wall art, whether single piece or a grouping. Go to jc Penney's, or Bed, Bath and Beyond, etc and decide on comforter. Pick window panels and sheets that coordinate. You could add an 5 x 8 area rug 1/2 under your bed..this cozies up the space. Add lamp(s) to your dresser. Paint the wall a neutral to coordinate with bedding. Do you have room for a chair in the corner? Remove mirror from dresser and add wall mounted flat screen.

JWinteriors, right now we don't have a mirror, but the closet has a sliding mirror which i don't like.
You suggested painting the wall a neutral color, would a light shade of brown work?

I looked at your ideabook and the earlier post. What happened to the padded wall/headboard idea? Did you give up on that or find too good a deal on your bed set? In reality, decorators would have discouraged you on the idea of a "set" as "matchy-matchy" is out of fashion for now. Can't really see a complete shot of the bed wall but it may be a little crowded with the bed and two side tables. First, is the bed facing the door and is the wall it is on solid (no windows or doors?) These dining room drapes are the color I consider to be "Tiffany Blue" as it pretty much matches their gift box color. Is this the color you have in mind? Please take pictures of the entire space. Start at the door and work around clockwise taking a shot from each corner and mid-wall if you can. Post here as a comment with images attached and we'll see what can be done.
