Ugh. It's unsightly, not fatal. Your beardeds will be fine and you may even have years ahead without a spot.

Make sure the iris have full sun and air circulation. I pull out reseeded annuals whose foliage touches that of the iris. Do not use sprinklers on beardeds.

We can't predict when it's going to be a bad year for fungal spot but some people spray with a fungicide when they spot it. A fungicide will innoculate uncontaminated portions of the leaves, but not kill what is there. It's preventative and must be repeated every few weeks according to label directions. You could start spraying. I would not rip away foliage now.

I was under the impression that Chlorothalinol was the only really effective anti-fungal chemical that worked. A couple years ago, the only non-industrial source seemed to be Ortho Max. Perhaps newer products all have effective chemicals?? In any case, I have had serious infections and I don't think it really caused plant deaths.

I have had pretty good success with Daconil, I spray when the TB fans get about 8" tall and again just before bloom. In spite I get some spot. It is just a way of life in the Northwest.

Thanks ciris, Daconil appears to be chlorothalinol. I guess this would be a good time to hit my iris with some. I always forget until the infestation is well under way.

How much Daconil do you use per gallon of water? I always find the labels IMPOSSIBLE to read and understand :)
