No Idea what to do with this backyard

Would like some privacy landscaping along the fence on sides with neighbors. Need to leave space for dogs.

No pool. Want something low maint and that we can enjoy. Maybe even a fire pit?

First pic shows where privacy needed.

You have a blank slate. Hire a landscape architect to develop a plan for your yard that gives you exactly what you are looking for. A professional plan is $ well spent. Just doing a bunch of random plantings is a poor approach without a plan. You will significantly elevate the value of your property in the future with a matured well planned landscape.

Take out some of the lawn around the perimeter and plant shrubs that will grow taller than the fence. What you plant depends on where you live.

Don't know if you are wanting a designated dog run area? Depending on which way the house faces you might cross fence off the side yard for a dog area. Key. Is you want it to be protected from the weather. Plant a tree for shade. Build a raised platform with house for shelter. And if you are in warm climate put in a water feature to cool off in.

First thing to figure out is how you are going to use the back yard. You say you need space for the dogs. How much space? My German Shorthair Pointer would need every inch of the space you have. My Rotti/Greyhound is a couch potato and would need a 10x10 area to go potty. Are you going to use this area for entertaining guests? Do you love to BBQ or never BBQ? Do you have kids or will you have kids or grand kids that have to be part of the design? Do you want a vegetable garden or a wet bar?
