I do have oak doors and cabinets, but did paint my trim white. It had been pine, so an easier decision. If not painted, it should be stained darker. When he thinks what a chore stripping and staining would be, he will probably opt to paint.

Since you have two- toned cabinets the window trim is just one more element here that really shouldn't be. I would paint it a soft white to tie in with your countertops. Your husband did a nice job on the trim and it will look lovely painted.

My friend just completed her kitchen reno and used the same paint colour that I did...BM Abalone. Her paint looks different than mine and I think it's because she has an all white (cabinets and appliances) I actually liked her colour better not knowing it was the same. So maybe once I paint the window trim, the paint colour will look better too? :)

Just information, any wood can be darkened with tinted varnish.

TT.....that's a good point. I would like the window trim to blend in and not stand out like it does now. Since all of the house is trimmed in oak, I am wondering if staining it darker will look odd. My hope is to make it disappear or at minimum, blend in with the rest of the room. Thanks a lot!

Yes that's another good point. However, if I ever decide to change the wall colour then I have to paint all the window again. At least if it's a soft white then I won't have to change the colour ever and it will blend with the ceiling which is white. Thank you for responding :)

Are your lower cabinets painted? Looks like they are...I would paint out the window the same color as the lower cabinets...it will really make the kitchen feel cohesive and modern.

Thank you.....I never thought of that. This is a very good point hmmm. This is certainly non-traditional and like you say more modern which is what I want. I just don't want the eye drawn to the window frame.....and I am planning to remove the oak trim and change it for a modern trim with paint on it. :)

I totally agree with Flopsycat.......paint it the wall color. If you repaint the walls you can easily repaint the window to match. You have many colors going on now and a busy backsplash. I would not want the window to be a different color. Your kitchen is beautiful.

The window is definitely at odds with the cabinetry. Paint it the wall colour. The introduction of an additional colour would create a choppiness.

You could always go up one color from your wall color for your window trim; do it in a semi- gloss. This way it will tie into your wall color but have a bit of separation. I don't think it matters to much about the rest of the house trim here. This is an isolated window surrounded by to many other colors.

I have seen this same application done before and it looks very modern....I actually think it will pull everything together...right now you have light wood trim...wall color...dark upper cabinets...painted lower cabinets...tile...granite...but none are repeated...this is a great spot to bring it together...nothing to loose paint it lower cabinet color and if you don't like it paint it wall color...good luck:))

Thanks to everyone......I will chane the profile of the trim to something more modern and then prime it....if I don't like the colour I can change it. Houzzers are great!

General paint makes an amazing product called Gel Stain that takes very little prep. You could match the window stain to the upper cabinets so all the wood above the counter is the same. Or else I would paint with a cream color that blends with the counter and backsplash.
