I think I would pull out the shrubs in front of the window and put lower lying landscaping, maybe some flowering bulbs. I'd also landscape right before the corner on the front side of the sidewalk up along to where it meets the front door, possibly with a little curved bed to soften the hard edge of the corner of the sidewalk -- just something to draw you up to the front door. If putting in a new landscaping bed is not in the budget, just put a big pot of flowers at the corner. Maybe lattice or something of the like on the side where the door faces the neighbor's house would also give a little more privacy and make it more her own entry.
