I like the all white look, but I think there is an added benefit to painting your's white -- it will no longer compete with the chairs. Right now, the pattern and the bulk of the chairs are at odds with the two-toned painted wainscotting.

Maureen - I had to laugh....This is the 4th color on the walls in the last 6 months! I obviously don't mind painting that much but the trim really is a pain!!!

You beat me - I've done 4 colors in 2 years! I know the trim is a lot more time consuming, as I did it in my dining room..then a year later painted it. I like to think of painting as an investment to our lifestyle and to our home..while cooking feels like a waste of time, so my husband does the cooking, while I paint.

Yes! All white for sure. I agree, two-tone is detracting from the chairs. It's also making the wainscotting look 'cheap' (sorry), as if molding was applied directly to the drywall, which it likely was but the goal is to make it look like painted wood panels. Another benefit of all white is that it will disguise your outlets. I love your table, chairs, chandelier and especially the carpet. The wall color looks great too! My only other negative comment would be that the mirror is too heavy looking and competes a bit with the chandelier (perhaps on the other wall?). Love the art in Maureen's post.

The mirror has been discussed! I agree with you. The chandelier is absolutely beautiful and since I pain a pretty penny for it I feel like you don't see the detail with the mirror. So yes, I may move that to the other wall. I am planning on a LARGE clock for in there as well. And an airy curtain as I don't want it too formal. Between my boyfriend and I we have 4 kids (11 - 17) and we eat family dinners in here. It's also where we play games. So, fun but can be dressed up if I want a more formal dinner. And the carpet I had made since I wanted a 10 x 10 to keep the chairs on even when pulled out. I couldn't find exactly what I wanted and this one has a silvery sheen when the light shines in. It was worth the money!!!

Thanks groveraxle! I love that look! Are you using an app to do that? I've painted the bottom white but have a second coat to go on today. I've got some beautiful large prints that would go there but my boyfriend and I can't seem to agree on art! We built two years ago and will be in 2 years this July and there are still plenty of empty walls!

And btw...I actually really like the art piece you put in there!

I took everyone's advice and painted it white! Going to move the mirror to the other wall as suggested as well - I like the look! Now to get the other half to agree on artwork.....

I think the mirror placement is best across the window as well - by reflecting the light.

If the mirror was in a lighter finish (like in an off-white distressed or faux finish/chalk paint looking), I think it could look fabulous!

I will be contacting you - My artwork is mostly canvases of very large wild animals - close ups, etc. My boyfriend hates them even though they are extremely masculine in nature. So they are sitting in my basement. He is more contemporary than I am so I think this is something we might actually be able to agree on. I will let you know!

gemstar64 - I picked this mirror up off a local resale site for $60. As you can see it is large (about 42 x 65) and extremely heavy! It was black with cheap looking silver corners. We painted it with a hammered pewter. I personally love the white distressed look and have it elsewhere in the house (I did a pair of dressers for nightstands). By boyfriend picked this out so every now and then I give in! LOL Pick my battles!

Painting the lower section white would make your beautiful table the focal point. Nice crisp white place settings, with dark grey chargers, and some greenery scattered throughout would make the room complete.
