It looks like pecky cedar, popular in 1960's southern California. Now it is too expensive for most new developments. Have you tested for lead paint already?

Maybe you will be lucky and find stucco underneath the wood. Do any of the houses in your neighborhood have this wood also?

If there is no stucco I think board and batten would be a nice replacement. The only color house I would say does not go with the brick path is orange. Just choose a color you like. I think taupe would be nice. It depends on the house colors of your immediate neighbors. I have noticed people rarely want their house to be the same color as their neighbors.

I think I would remove the window awning. For sure remove the brackets from the porch posts.

Hi emmarene - yeah we are a little worried about what we will find under the wood, hopefully stucco! No other houses in our neighborhood have this stuff. I like your board and batten idea, and agree re taupe too, i think subtle and earthy will make our (future) landscaping stand out. Thanks very much for your reply!
