I'm really nervous right now!

This snow and cold is fraying my nerves!!! I'm on the North Shore and I'm stressed about my spring/summer bulbs that are up by a few inches and many of my perennials that have started to peak through the ground. Also, my blueberries and flowering almonds buds were on the verge of bursting last week. I'm hoping the snow will insulate against the cold? Any words of wisdom? I'm a nut and feel like my friends are in danger....hahaha.

My daffodils are bent to the ground, for the second time. The 50mph wind gusts the other day were bad enough, then on Sunday we had heavy, wet snow and more wind, and yesterday about 7 inches of snow. My hyacinths were gorgeous a few days ago, fully bloomed and fragrant. Now they are flattened and buried. The pear tree buds are swelling, the forsythia is (was?) in full bloom, and the camellias had several flowers open last week, now all brown. I can't even see my hellebore flowers, which were also open last week. Grape hyacinths in the snow, now that's something I've never seen before, purple flowers against white! The roses have already started sprouting too, and my peonies are about 3-5 inches high, so I don't know what will happen to them. Tulips also have buds. This will be one weird weather event to remember.

You are not alone...unless you threw a blanket over them there is nothing you can do...I have already lost my Lilac buds, frozen to death now black, my magnolia buds and now when I look, all my perennial bulbs that have opened up...Very depressing..!

It's the amount of subfreezing cold and duration of time that is killing mine, not just a quick shot of cold and snow(

It is suppose to be in the 40's tomorrow with rain and much warmer for the end of the week. Scary part is this weekend we are on the edge for snow again.

I'm more depressed by this weather than afraid. I have a fatalistic attitude. My last glimpse of my budding daffodils was wilted stems from the cold, and now they are buried under the snow. I'm sure the blooms are toast, but what can you do? They'll be back next year.

actually the snow acts as a blanket to protect the plants form the freezing temps.

i wouldn't worry at all....

Here are a few of my sad daffodils doing the face plant in what's left of the snow.

However if your perennials were just starting to emerge, Jana, they will probably be protected by snow cover, as Stevin said. My daffodils that had not yet budded or bloomed fared better than the ones shown above.

Well, looks like we are all in this together! I had quite a bit of melting in one of my perennial beds today and my oriental lilies there look ok. I put mason jars over them to protect them overnight. Everything else is still covered with snow so hopefully that insulates tonight. Tonight should be the worst of it and tomorrow we will be back on our way to spring. I really hope my flowering almond buds survive, I really look forward to their show every year. I got home from work yesterday and noticed one of my smaller rhododendrons lost most of its flowers. It was blooming way early this year. The buds on the dwarf lilacs look ok.

I think all my pawpaw buds were damaged by the cold and I will see no flowers nor fruit this year.
